Projects
I’ve worked on a lot of stuff over the years. Some of it commercial, a lot of it personal, and much of it never saw the light of day. I have a fairly short attention span when it comes to things, I guess. In any event, here’s a breakdown of some of the more notable things I’ve done or am in the midst of building. This shouldn’t be considered a portfolio or resume by any means, you can learn more about my professional experiences elsewhere.
Sites
ProfileRehab — A profile theme site for social networks I’m working on with a friend of mine. Launching soon.
TwitterBash — Judson Collier and I developed TwitterBash out of a simple idea he had: people say some hilarious crap on Twitter, and it would be great to have a site not unlike the classic bash.org to share those tweets. TwitterBash allows you to import your favorite quotes, embed them in external pages, and vote tweets up or down in a Digg-like weighted popularity system. Launched.
Nijikon — A social network devoted to anime, manga and Japanese culture. In development.
SmugURL — URL shortening/forwarding service devoted to linking to photos and galleries hosted at SmugMug. Launched. Learn more.
Themes
FriendFeed “Neo” Theme — An dark contrast theme that puts less strain on the eyes. Great for folks who spend way too much time on FriendFeed, as I often do.
Plugins
FriendFeed Activity Widget — A WordPress widget for displaying your FriendFeed stream on your blog’s sidebar. Has nifty features like grouping of events (like lots of photo uploads), Twitter @reply filtering, and more.
Brightkite Location — A WordPress plugin that aggregates your Brightkite data and renders it on your blog. Simple, fun and maybe even a little useful.
Code
jQuery Autoscale-to-Parent — A quick but incredibly useful function for dynamically and proportionally scaling an element (like an embedded video) to the width of it’s parent. Great for fluid layouts.
libGamefly — A PHP library for pulling data from video gaming rental service Gamefly.
Applications
Dattebayo on Twitter — I’m not sure I’d consider this a project as it’s pretty self sustaining at this point, but I’ll toss it here anyway since it did require a bit of code lifting to get running. I built a PHP script to scrape the Dattebayo anime subtitle group’s website and generate an RSS feed for my personal use, as well as update folks via Twitter when new anime releases are made. Pretty simple, but super useful for an anime nerd like me.
Ultima Offline eXperiment — I spent an unhealthy percentage of my teenage years working on UOX, a server emulator for the popular MMO Ultima Online. UOX was my inspiration to start working with C++, and the title that rekindled my interest in developing games as a career. I donated much of my time to improving performance, integrating features found in the official servers and expanding base functionality to support completely new features (like additional races.) It appears the software is no longer in active development, but you can still download a copy if you’re curious about it.
I am currently available for contract work! I have over a decade of experience in building appealing, standards-based web designs and applications. Check out
